DescriptionBi-fold menu shows Dave Harman roping cow while Belle leans over the fence with a sign that says, "Tempe, Arizona, a swell place to live". The back is designed like a giant postcard with a map of arizona on the left. Foods are described as cowgirl, cattle thieves, chuckwagon, range rider, cow puncher, wrangler, etc. Overall the food and restaurant theme is western. A full steak dinner in the menu was $1.25.Caption from the Tempe 150th Anniversary exhibit:
Many of the new restaurants of the post-World War II highway culture were heavily family-oriented, and so alcohol was not on the menu. Places like Harman’s Red Barn banked on a varied, affordable, home-cooked menu and their theme of Western cowboy kitsch to rope-in customers. The strategy worked, aided by the soaring popularity of their “Kentucky Fried” chicken.
