Among the talented athletes who helped draw Arizona into national prominence was JoAnne Gunderson Carner. “The Great Gundy” was the first woman in the United States to earn a college golf scholarship when she arrived ASU in 1957, and she rose to dominate women’s golf long before she joined the professional circuit.
