DescriptionFrom a photograph caption appearing in the Saturday, June 3, 1978 issue of Tempe Daily News: (Note - this photo was related to, but not published with the article)

High And Dry -- And Dangerous - The Valley's unusually rainy winter season made for a spring of abundant blossoms in Tempe - but it also set the stage for what could be a busy late spring and summer for Tempe Fire Department. Weeds and wild grasses grew rapidly too, and are now drying out as the days get drier and hotter - creating veritable "tinderboxes" like vacant lot above on University drive, where slightest spark could set a fire, endangering neighboring residences. TFD urges residents to clean up lots, and yards too, of overgrown and dangerously dry grass, weeds and brush. City will clean up vacant lots deemed a nuisance if owners are out of state - but only after owners have been given a warning that if they don't take care of the clutter, city will do it for them and put a lien against property,
and are given 30 to 60 days to comply.
