DescriptionFrom a photo caption appearing on the front page of the September 27, 1978 issue of Tempe Daily News:

Finding Out What They're In For - Candidates for Kyrene Elementary School District Board of Trustees terms got a briefing yesterday on what they can expect in the way of duties and problems to be solved in the growing district should they be elected come November. The candidates were guests for a special meeting of the current Kyrene school board. That's the district's policy manual Dr. Ben Furlong (standing) is holding - and explaining to candidates (seated l to r) Bob Nixon, William J. Johnson, Ron Pies, Carolyn Parrish and Barbara Hanigsberg. Not present was incumbent Steve Crookston who will seek a new term on the board in the November election.
