BiographyBusinessman; developer; farmer; legislator.
Came to Arizona in 1910; lived in Mesa and Phoenix before moving to Tempe in 1945.
He was publisher of Mesa Free Press in 1912.
He had one of the largest poultry farms in the valley.
In 1945, he started building two new housing developments in Tempe, Goodwin Homes and Mitchell's Addition.
Served five terms in the Arizona Legislature, representing Phoenix and Tempe, c1938-1958.
Member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and served as I.O.O.F. Grand Master of Arizona.
Tried to turn the Niels Petersen House into a museum of the history of the Odd Fellows in Arizona.
Member of Knights of Pythias.
Donated land for Washington school.
Mitchell School was named in his honor.
Lived at 920 S. Roosevelt, Tempe.
