BiographyMoved to Tempe in 1953.
Championed the rights of the elderly, women, and minorities.
Graduated from Northwestern University, with a B.A. degree in history and political science. She also received a Bachelor of Divinity from Garrett Biblical Institute, Methodist Seminary in Illinois, and an M.A. degree in religious education and social-service administration from the University of Chicago. She taught social work at Arizona State University until she retired at the age of 69 in 1976. During her tenure, was a leading force in the creation of the ASU Graduate School of Social Work.
After her retirement, she founded the Arizona chapter of the Gray Panthers, and helped create organizations that assist the disabled, such as Shared Living for the Elderly and Tempe Home Services.
She was a Democratic precinct chairwoman, and served on the Governor's Advisory Council on Aging. With her husband, Albert, founded the Escalante Senior Center in Tempe.
She received the Don Carlos Humanitarian Award from the Tempe Community Council in 1990.
