He worked for the railroad in San Francisco; then moved to Los Angeles and opened a garment shop; he later moved to the Imperial Valley. He came to Arizona in 1927. During World War II, his travels were restricted due to creation of the military zone south of Tempe. He bought a 13-acre farm at 2049 E. University Drive, c1951. The family operated truck farms in the Tempe and Mesa area, and eventually opened a small produce market near their home.
