BiographyBaptist Minister.
Came to Tempe in 1904.
Taught in Illinois for several years. He studied for the ministry, and graduated from Shurtleff College in Upper Alton, Illinois, in 1866. On the day he graduated, the President of the college, Rev. Read, presided over his marriage to Georgia Saleme. He held many important pastorates in Illinois, and in Emporia, Kansas, where his first wife passed away. In 1884 he was called to California, where he became the pastor of the Monrovia Baptist Church. Later, he was pastor at Chino, California. Served as Justice of the Peace in Tempe in 1900. He was sent to Tempe in 1904 because of ill health. From Tempe, he went to a Yuma for six years, then to California for a year, and returned to Arizona in 1918. He served at the Bapist Church in Tempe briefly, then was called back to Yuma, where he was acting pastor of the Yuma First Church for one year. He was elected missionary pastor for the state of Arizona, and was sent to Naco, Arizona, where he was pastor for six years until his death.
Also owned a real estate and insurance business. Was a shareholder in the Tempe Irrigating Canal Company in 1923. Owned SW4 NE4 section 23 (40 acres), in 1924.
Lived on Mill Avenue in 1910.
