George A. Malone

BiographyAs a member of the 101st Infantry Regiment of the Massachusetts National Guard, he was sent to Las Cruces, New Mexico, in 1916 to guard the border against raids by Mexican revolutionaries. His regiment, as a part of the 26th Infantry Division, was federalized and sent to France in 1917. He was wounded twice in World War I and earned the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, and six battle stars.
He studied law, and received his law degree in 1922. He worked as a federal law clerk in Boston, c1922-1928; then worked for the U.S. Treasury Department in Washington, D.C., c1928-1946.
He retired and moved to Arizona, where he worked as a legislative liaison for Williams Air Force Base, and as a maintenance man for Tempe schools.
He served as an officer of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans, and worked with the Salvation Army. He organized the Elks Tempe Lodge No. 2251. He also worked as a proofreader for Tempe Daily News for 17 years. In 1962 he ran an unsuccessful campaign for a seat in the House of Representatives.
