BiographyCame to Tempe c1872.
She came to Tempe from Tucson after her husband's death, c1872, and settled on the family's
claim in the Tempe area with her daughters and youngest son. She grew corn, beans, squash, and herbs. She was a shareholder in Tempe Irrigating Canal Co., with 2 water rights listed on Oct. 9, 1873, and March 31, 1875. On July 3, 1890, she received
a patent on her land. The 160-acre ranch was surveyed and subdivided, and on Aug. 23, 1890,
Winchester Miller filed a plat for the Sotelo Addition, consisting of 25 large lots lying between the Tempe-Mesa Road and the Hayden Canal. Many of these lots were already occupied by her children and by relatives who had moved from Tucson.
