Julius Hull Henness and Josie DeNettie Turner Henness came to Arizona in 1898. They lived in Phoenix for two years before moving to Kelvin, Arizona. In 1911, they sold their business in Kelvin and bought an 80-acre farm in section 33, northeast of the corner of Guadalupe Road and Priest Drive. With additional leased lands, they operated a farm which ran along Southern Avenue, between Hardy and 48th Street, where they grew alfalfa
and citrus, as well as many other fruit crops, including figs, pears, apricots, peaches, grapes, almonds, dates, and olives. They also operated a dairy business with up to 80 milk cows.
Shareholder in the Tempe Irrigating Canal Co., in 1923. Owned S2 SW4 section 29 (80 acres) and E2 W2 N of canal, section 33 (87 acres), in 1924.
President of the Tempe High School Board of Education, c1920.
