Worked at his father's blacksmith shop and auto repair business in 1926 , In 1928 was a mechanic, lived at 928 Maple Ave. and later inherited the business. Operated E. H. Spain's Garage at 20-22 E 6th until 1970.
Chief of the Tempe Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years; he kept the city's fire engine in operating condition, 1919-1952.
Member of the Tempe Historical Society, Tempe Civic Club, and Tempe Old Settlers Association.
Lived at 18 E. 6th Street in 1921. Lived at 928 S. Maple Avenue in 1923,'25, 1926, 1928, '29, '30, '31, '32, 1940.
