DescriptionThe pastry sale Smitty's store at 5100 South McClintock was apparently getting ready for may be a while in coming. Those round things in the foreground at right were fancy layer cakes -- until a fire started in a freezer box where the cakes were stored at the bakery, about noon on Sunday. The cakes didn't get overbaked, but they wound pretty soggy when sprinklers were activated by the smoke.
