DescriptionTaken from Tempe Daily News - Monday, February 27, 1978: Tempeans have been waiting for a long time for the "big hole" at the northwest corner of Southern and McClintock to boast something more than rusted steel beams, partial wall and foundation diggings - and become the regional shopping center it started out to become over three years ago. Just possibly the long wait is over. Tempe city council last week approved final development plan for a mini-regional shopping center proposed for the site by developer John Holmes, developer of Los Arcos Mall among other valley shopping centers. Holmes proposes a two-phase center on 71 acres, that would include three or major "anchoring" department stores and number of entertainment features such as theater, restaurant, etc. Development has been dormant since initial developer went broke, and the contractor pulled off the job.
