DescriptionFrom a photo caption appearing in the Tuesday, October 17, 1978 issue of Tempe Daily News:

Distinguished Visitor - Invited Valley media representatives and other special guests heard former President Gerald R. Ford discuss national issues and the coming election in an "off the cuff" talk at a luncheon hosted by Arizona's District 1 Congressman John Rhodes at Tower Suite, Valley Bank Center, Phoenix, yesterday. Above Rhodes (left) welcomes the distinguished Valley visitor on his arrival at the luncheon. Ex-President Ford applauded Congress for its "major job of surgery" on the energy bill and said in his travels across the country, he has felt the concern and "often deep anger" of people over inflation. The coming election, he said, could be a referendum. Asked what his role in the next Presidential election will be, Mr. Ford said he has "lots of flexibility!"
