DescriptionA ceramic polychrome bowl with a black on white pattern on both the exterior and interior. According to the donor file, its geographic location is the Four Corners region: Mimbres Valley. The donor file, the NAGPRA report, and the archaeologist notebook all state that the bowl was from 900-1050 A.D. The donor file says its associated culture is the Anasazi, but the NAGPRA report states the culture is Mimbres, to match the region it is from. Furthermore, the geographic location listed in the NAGPRA report is not quite the same, as it reads SW New Mexico - SE Arizona, rather than saying Mimbres Valley by name, or even the Four Corners region. The bowl's cultural affiliation is Zuni according to the NAPGRA report. An archaeologist's comment reads "very bizarre, very heavily reparied. Only tiny portion is original. Maybe from burial." A second archaeologist comment refers to that hole in the middle of the bowl, which is referred to as a "kill hole" which is a common Mimbres burial trait.Status
