DescriptionView of the Tempe Hotel taken around 1890. Tempe Hotel built in 1888 at 4th St. and Mill Avenue in Tempe, Arizona on the site of the Casa Loma Hotel which was built when this hotelburned in 1894. A duplicate of this image is 1987.1.2971. The hotel burned on 1894 and was replaced by the Casa Loma Hotel in 1899.

The Tempe Hotel on Mill Avenue and 4th Street was built in 1888. On the evening March 10, 1894 a fire broke out in the kitchen that quickly spread to the rest of the structure. The hotel was a complete loss, but a bucket brigade was able to save adjacent buildings. The only fatality that night was a carp that was kept in a bowl at the hotel bar. A Few years later the Casa Loma hotel was built on this site.
