DescriptionTempe Hotel at 4th St. and Mill Avenue, Tempe, Arizona. A duplicate of this image is 1987.1.1761.The Tempe Hotel on Mill Avenue and 4th Street was built in 1888. On the evening March 10, 1894 a fire broke out in the kitchen that quickly spread to the rest of the structure. The hotel was a complete loss, but a bucket brigade was able to save adjacent buildings. The only fatality that night was a carp that was kept in a bowl at the hotel bar. A Few years later the Casa Loma hotel was built on this site.
