DescriptionFrom an article/photograph published in Tempe Daily News, June 17, 1977:

The Grand Scramble -

Give a kid a ball and a game to play - and he's just as apt as not to add his own twist and make something new out of it. That's what happened to dodge ball when youngsters in Tempe Elementary School District put their inventiveness to work and made a new game out of it this past school year. And now "Ga Ga Dodgeball" is a favorite activity in Parks and Recreation Department's summer playground programs. Object is to hit someone below the knees with the ball to put them out of the game, with the last person left the winner. Trying to avoid that ball can lead to some pretty strange dodging techniques as witness, for instance, the contortionist to immediate right of young man in P&R t-shirt above or youngster at left who appears to be starting a shottische during a Ga Ga game in Broadmor school summer playground program.
