DescriptionFrom a photo caption appearing in the April 6, 1978 issue of Tempe Daily News:Chief Gets 'Pinned' - It really is official now - Tempe's new Fire Chief Bill Hayes (center) got the badge that says he really is the fire chief, Thursday, in a surprise presentation made by members of the C shift at Tempe's main fire station. Not only that, the crew gave him his very own fire truck! "Pinning" Hayes with his badge, which had just arrived in the mail, is TFD Secretary Joanne Stepton. There was a cake to celebrate the occasion too. The fire truck? Look closely; the chief's holding it!'
