DescriptionLetter to Niels Petersen's niece, Mrs Kreston Magenson. Written in Danish. Here is the translation:

My dear sister's daughter [niece]
We received a letter from Cathrine in Esbjerg who informed us that Christen had passed away, it saddened us very much to hear that your dear husband had died. I am thinking that Christen was prepared he was a good Christian, and we hope and believe that he has gone to a better home.
We all have to die at some point, when you just are prepared for death then it is a positive thing/a winning to die, the separation is very difficult and it is hard for those who are left behind, but you have to strive towards meeting your late husband in a better home where there is no separation.
May our heavenly father have mercy and give you strength to raise your children in the fear of God so you all may meet/gather in a better home.
I am sending you a voucher, New York, for $1000 to help you through, let me know how much you owe on the farm, and if you think you want to keep the farm.
Your mother's sister and I are both in good health and are sending many loving greetings to you and the children say hello to them in Vilslev Esbjerg and Øster V…? [could be ØsterVedsted?]
Your beloved mother's bother [uncle]
