DescriptionLetter from Niels Petersen to his niece. Written in Danish.
Translation:
Tempe Arizona U.S. of America December 10 1919

Dear sister's daughter [niece]
I promised I would send some money to you so you could pay the debt you have on the farm at home I would have send the money earlier but I was afraid that as long as the war was going on the money might be lost and not be received by you I send New York draft (?) $2500 I am thinking it is 10000 kr maybe a little more in Danish kroner you must be careful to get full value you might be able to get them exchanged in Ribe or Esbjerg. It is not worth mentioning it to other relatives maybe they will be jealous.
Let me know how your health is now I hope you are in by good health.
Oscar Christensen and wife traveled to Esbjerg a couple of weeks ago they promised to visit you and also those in Wilslev. [Vilslev was spelled Wilslef at the time Niels Pedersen was born.] Your aunt and I are both in good health Jens Peter Hoier/Højer is working here he likes America.
The times are good for the farmers over here things we grow bring in a good price but expenses are also big, taxes and salaries, for workers we pay $2 and food per day or $3 per day if a man feeds himself, we have a maid/girl who has worked for us for about 3 years we pay her $ 2.50 per day.
I will now end with many loving greetings to you and the children from me and my wife
Your mother's brother [uncle] Niels Petersen
