DescriptionPostcard dated Aug. 9, 1909 addressed to Miss Mildred Hart in Tempe, AZ, daughter of Tempe's first mayor Dr. Fenn J Hart, from an unknown individual in Bisbee, AZ with the initials B.D.G., indicating the postcard would be of interest to Mildred. The photographic image on the front of the postcard consists of 2 photos of Dr. Hart standing outside in the desert at different stages of his life in similar outfits. In the top picture Dr. Hart is standing outside next to a house with an unknown man in the desert. Dr. Hart is looking to his right facing the man, he is wearing a long sleeve white collar shirt under a short tie, with slacks, a belt and riding shoes, he has a white Stetson hat in his left hand, and his hair is thinning on top, with a dark mustache, goatee, and whitening sideburns. The other man is wearing a white long sleeve shirt rolled up to his elbows, under striped overalls and black shoes, he has a cane in his right hand, a black hat on his head, a pipe in his mouth, and appears to have a dark bushy handlebar mustache and sideburns. In the bottom photo Dr. Hart is standing outside in the desert with a dog at his right side, and a large saguaro cactus in the background. He is wearing an outfit similar to the top photo with a white long sleeve collar shirt, slacks, belt and riding shoes, he also has a white Stetson hat in his left hand again. He appears younger in this photo as his hair is full, dark and combed to the side, as well as a trimmed dark mustache and beard that is barely beginning to whiten at his chin. In 1909 Mildred would have been about 16 years old, and from 1903 - c. 1909 Dr. Hart lived in Bisbee working as a physician for several mining companies in southern Arizona and northern Mexico. Based on this information, the postcard was likely intended to be then & now photos of Dr. Hart in Bisbee sent to Muriel by a friend there.
