BiographyGraduated from the Territorial Normal School in 1895. Taught school for a while, and also worked cattle ranches around Payson, worked as a miner, and worked at Parry's Blacksmith Shop in Tempe. With his brother, Joseph T. Birchett, established a dairy on his 160-acre ranch on E. University Drive. After several years, Joseph began devoting his attention to his business, the Birchett Brothers General Store, so John brought his two sons,
Robert W. and George H., into the dairy business and the name was changed to Birchett & Sons Dairy. Had an orchard of 130 pecan trees. They expanded and started farming 120 acres across the
road from the ranch. He also had 80 acres under cultivation at McClintock and Apache Boulevard, and another 40 acres at Horn and Baseline roads in Mesa. He was farming as much as 680 acres in the Tempe-Mesa area at one time.
Shareholder in the Tempe Irrigating Canal Co., 1923. Elected a Director of the Tempe Cotton Exchange in 1914, and President in 1918, Vice-Pres in 1921.
He served as president of the Kyrene Farm Bureau, as a director of the Arizona Milk Producers Association, and as a member of the Salt River Project Council. He was also active in the Pima Cotton Growers Association. He served on Rohrig School Board.
Lived 3 miles east of Tempe. In 1921, '23, -'26, -'29 lived at RD 2. In 1929 lived at Rt.2 See also: Birchett, John Robert # 67.
