Came to Tempe in 1884.
After receiving a good education, he and his cousin left home and went west. His brother, Judson, joined him in New Mexico, and then in Colorado.
In 1884 they came to Salt River Valley from Colorado by the way of Flagstaff and Tonto
Basin, and began farming some of the oldest ranches south of Tempe. After he and his brother had settled in Tempe, his father and mother and two sisters came and lived on a ranch south of Tempe known as the Harmon Home Place.
He became a well-known cattle rancher.
His first ranch was on the Verde River.
In 1904 he bought the Yolo Ranch at Camp Wood, AZ.
In 1922 he became Mayor of Phoenix, but resigned in less than a year because of ill health.
He was President of the Cattle Growers Association and an official of National Livestock Convention.
Owned NW4 section 27, T.1 N.,R.4 E. (119 acres), NW4 section 14, T.1 S.,R.4 E. (155 acres), NE4 section 23, T.1 S.,R.4 E. (160 acres), W2 section 26, T.1 S.,R.4 E. (320 acres), and E2 SE4 section 15, T.1 S.,R.4 E. (80 acres) in 1924.
