His career with the company included work as a clerk (1913), bookkeeper (1916), and assistant manager (1920). In 1923, 1925, -'26 1928 , -'29, -'32 was sec.-mgr of Tempe Hw=dware. In 1941-42 sold home appliances at 409 Mill.
Shareholder in the Tempe Irrigating Canal Co., 1923.
Owned 6 1/2 acres in section 16 (within city limits), in 1924.
Gov. B. B. Moeur appointed him deputy state director of the Works Progress Administration, and he oversaw work on many Tempe area projects, including the Tuberculosis sanitarium, Cosner Auditorium, the Mouer Activity Building, the west side of Goodwin Stadium, Curry Road, the Tempe High School Industrial Arts Building, and the Tempe Fire Station.
He joined the Tempe Volunteer Fire Department when he was 17 years old, and was an active member for 50 years. Served as president of the TVFD and the Arizona State Firemen's Association.
Member of Tempe's first Planning and Zoning Commission and board member of the City of Tempe Municipal Building Corp. In 1941-'42 was a councilman
He was one of the organizers of the Sun Angels Foundation, and served as secretary, c1947-1975.
Tempe Elementary School District named John J. Curry School in his honor, c1972.
Lived west of Tempe Depot in 1924. Lived at 19 W 5th in 1921. In 1923 lived at 520 Mill Ave.In 1923, -'25, 1928, -'32 had different wife, Thelma. In 1928 , '30, -'31 lived at 211 [255] Roosevelt Rd. In 1929 lived at 28 W 8th. In 1930 see Tempe Edw. Co. In 1930, -'31 wife was Thelma.
