Came to Tempe c1888.
Helped develop the land under the new irrigation system near Tempe. He later moved into town and went into the mercantile business. He was a clerk for C. T. Hayden & Co./Hayden Flour Mill, in 1899.
He had a grocery at Mill and 4th Street, in 1906.
He also erected the first motion picture business
in Tempe, known as the Goodwin Opera House.
He was the showman at Goodwin Opera House and Aerodome, c1910-1918, and had a real estate office at the opera house. In October, 1918, he sold the Goodwin Opera House to William Menhennet of Mesa.
He was a lover of music, and with the assistance of his wife, he set the poem, "Home on the Range," to music, which was copyrighted and recorded by the The Victor Phonograph Company, and became a popular song. In 1921 was an exporter. In 1928 was a rancher.

He eventually moved to California. In 1928, 1930,-'31, '32 was servicemzn for Central AZ Lioght & Power.
