BiographyCame to Tempe in 1883. Mgr of News Publishing Co in 1922, 1925., -'26, '28,-'29, '32. In 1923 was Mayor of Tempe and mgr of the News Publishing Co.Owner and Editor of the Tempe Daily News. In 1931 was publ of Tempe Daily & Weekly News.
One of the most active and influential residents in early Tempe, he was the founder and long-time editor of the Tempe News and Tempe Daily News, first published in August of 1887. He had worked at newspapers in Perry and Colorado Springs, Colorado, and had worked as composing room foreman of the Arizona Gazette, c1883-1887. His brother, Emory, was also a newspaper editor, for the Nogales Border Vidette. He was Postmaster of Tempe, 1893-1897, during which time he instituted Tempe's first rural delivery route. In 1901, he took a position as clerk of the 21st Territorial House of Representatives. He served as Tempe Town Clerk, 1906-1914. He was also Secretary of the Board of Education for the Territorial Normal School, 1894-1898, and was appointed chairman of the State Board of Pardons and Paroles in 1918. He served as Mayor of Tempe, June 8, 1922 - June 12, 1924, and was a member of the Board of Trustees of Tempe School District No. 3. He was also a Captain in the Territorial National Guard. He lived at 112/116 [124]W. 4th Street in 1923. 128 [130]W 4th in 1925, '26, '28., '29, '30,,-'31, '32.
In 1970, he was inducted into the Arizona Newspaper Hall of Fame.
