DescriptionThe chair has tapered legs and two vertical stiles from feet to crest. There are two plain stretchers across the front and sides of the chair which are attached to the legs and stiles by doweled joints. Four separate pieces of wood frame the seat and there is a thin piece of wood in the center with holes in it. It is attached to the seat with nails. Bent brackets are attached to the seat and stiles, which reinforce the stiles. The brackets are screwed on and the stiles are also screwed to the seat. A curved crest and bottom rail are attached to the stiles with mortise and tenon joints. Seven turned spindles are attached to the crest and bottom rail with doweled joints. The crest rail has a pressed design.

This chair is one of three. It has a darker seat frame and front legs compared to chair 291.2. It has drops of varnish on the bottom rail. There is also a height difference between the two chairs.
