Elks Honor Youths - Top Essayists:

First place winners in Elks annual Americanism Essay contest for the city's fifth through eighth graders receive certificates from Dick Hatcliff, a past exalted ruler of the Tempe Lodge, during Elks annual banquet saluting youth. Honored along with second and third place winners, the top young essayists included (from left) McKemy eighth graders Ken Schoenwetter and Tracy Moore, in the seventh and eighth grade boys and girls' divisions, respectively; Thew school sixth grader Gil Cisneros, first place in fifth and sixth grade boys' division. Not pictured was Carol Berger, Ward school sixth grader who took first place in the fifth and sixth grade girls' division.
