DescriptionPhoto of San Xavier Mission taken from atop Grotto Hill to the Mission's east, O'odham tribal communities can be seen surrounding the Mission, and Tucson's Sierrita Mountains can be seen to the southwest of the Mission. The photo is undated, but was likely taken sometime between 1884 and 1887 during Dr. Hart's time serving as a government physician, surgeon and school director at the San Xavier Mission for theTohono and Akimel O'odham tribal communities that surround the Mission (formerly known as the Papago and Pima tribes, respectively).
