Came to Tempe in 1899.
At the age of 10, he moved with his family from Tennessee, to Del Rio, Texas, where he lived
until 1893. He moved to Arizona in 1893 and purchased a ranch west of Phoenix. He lived in
Tempe, 1899-1901; lived in Phoenix, 1901-1905; lived on a ranch near Tempe, 1905-1910; and
moved back to Tempe in 1910.
He had a long political career in Arizona.
He was elected to the first Board of Trustees of the Phoenix Union High School District on April 20, 1895, and was elected to the first Board of Trustees for the Tempe Union High School District in 1908, where he served three terms. He served on the
Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, 1912-1915.
He was the first appointed State Land Commissioner, a position he held from June 29, 1915 to January 1, 1921. He was appointed Tempe Justice of the Peace, c1921. He was a member of the Old Settlers of Tempe Association. He lived at 850 Ash Avenue, c1910-1929.
