BiographyCame to Tempe in 1914.
Veterinarian surgeon; farmer; State Veterinarian.
He grew up on a stock farm in Vienna, Illinois. He attended Southern Illinois Normal School and graduated from the Chicago Veterinary College in 1907. Served as mayor of Vienna. In 1914. He came to Tempe in 1914 and set up a veterinary practice in the town livery stables. In 1925 was at 120 W 1st. Was vet in 1921,1922, '23, '26., '28, '[ at 820 Forest Ave.] 32, '36'38, '39, '41--'42. He also operated several farms and cattle ranches throughout the state, specializing in alfalfa and bermuda seed. He also owned a herd of 100 dairy cows, operated the Enterprise Ranch, cattle breeding pens near Arlington, ran a beef cattle spread near Young,
and at one time had 1,700 acres in cotton. He served as State Veterinarian, 1917-1922, 1929-1930, and 1950-1952.
He was a Tempe City Councilman from 1928-1932 and served on the Tempe city zoning board. He was also a board member for the Tempe Union High School District, 1919-1929. Was active in Tempe Chamber of Commerce, Tempe Soil Conservation Committee, the Sun Angels, the Central Arizona Project Association and the Tempe Rotary. He was vice president of the Salt River Valley Water Users Association, president of the Arizona State Farm Bureau, and a member of the Kyrene Farm Bureau. He was also a member of the Arizona Club, American Veterinarian Association, Arizona Cattle Growers Association, Boy Scouts of America, American Veterinary Medical Association, Arizona Veterinary Medical Association, and the Tempe Masonic Lodge.
He was a shareholder in the Tempe Irrigating Canal Company in 1923.
Owned W2 W2 SE4 section 35 (40 acres), in 1924.
Lived at 120 W. 7th Street, 1919-1927, and at 820 [920]Forest Avenue in 1929, '30., '31, '32. He moved to 2914 N Evergreen in Phoenix in 1957.
