Many of Tempe's most prominent citizens turned out last night to honor former Gov. Howard Pyle, second from right, who was unanimously, voted "Citizen of the Year" by the Bob Finch Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Among those involved in the program, the 36th Birthday celebration of the Post, included, from left, Max Connolly, emcee for the evening; Tempe Mayor Bill LoPiano, who presented the plaque to Pyle; Eugene J. Beauperlant, Post Commander; Pyle; and Frank Connolly, who introduced the award winner. The publisher of the Tempe Daily News, Connolly received the first "Citizen of the Year" award presented in 1950 by the post.
