DescriptionLetter dated 9/27/1898 from Dr. Fenn J Hart, Tempe's first mayor, written from the Philippine Islands on his personal Red Cross physician stationary, to his wife Rosa Ann Brown Hart in Tempe, Arizona. The letter was written during Dr. Hart's time as a Red Cross physician and combat surgeon during the Spanish-American and Philippine Wars from 1898 - c. 1900. In the letter Dr. Hart explains to his wife that although the war is over he is still providing medical aid for the small pox patients in Manila, and promises to return home once medical aid is no longer needed for the soldiers. He appears to be trying to cheer her up, pleading with her to be happy, love their baby, not worry about him, send photos of baby, accept love and excuse him for not writing more.
