DescriptionLetter dated 9/3/1898 from the California Red Cross State Association in San Francisco, CA to Mrs. Rosa Ann Brown Hart in Tempe, AZ, wife of Tempe's first mayor Dr. Fenn J Hart. The hand-written letter advises Mrs. Hart that a $35 check is enclosed for the August monthly salary of Dr. Fenn J Hart for his ongoing work in Manila with the Red Cross. The letter thanks Mrs. Hart for her husband's invaluable service for the Red Cross and the soldiers, as well as for Dr. Hart's assistance in erecting a Convalescent House for the invalid soldiers in Manila. The letter was written during Dr. Hart's time as a Red Cross physician and combat surgeon during the Spanish-American and Philippine Wars from 1898 - c. 1900.
