William W. Rohrig

BiographyFarmer and apiarist (beekeeper).
Moved to Harmony, Indiana, c1875; went to Kern County, California, in 1888, where he was in charge of about 500 colonies of bees for William Dougherty, a well-known apiarist in California. He then went to New Mexico, c1889, and worked as a miner.
He moved to Tempe in 1891.
Purchased a ranch near Tempe.
In 1899 he donated land east of Tempe for the 4-room Rohrig School.
By 1901, he owned over 1000 colonies of bees
located in various places near Tempe, and was inspector of bees for Maricopa County, and was vice president of the Salt River Valley Honey Producers Association.
Was a driver for Fike's Auto Livery, c1916.
Member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Woodmen of the World.
Lived on Creamery Road (E. 8th Street) in 1917. Lived at 609 S. Mill Avenue in 1918.
