BiographyPresident of the Tempe Normal School/Arizona State Teachers College, 1900-1930. In 1931, -'32 was a teacher at Teachers College. In 1936 , '38 was President emeritus.
Attended Cazenovia Seminary (Syracuse University). Began teaching in 1880. He was principal of schools at West Eaton, NY; superintendent of city schools at Adams, NY; principal of schools at Carbon, Wyoming (1886); superintendent of city schools at Rock Springs (c1887-1894); a position at San Bernardino, Calif.; and superintendent of public schools in Prescott, Arizona (1897-1900). He accepted the Presidency of the Arizona Territorial Normal School in 1900, and served until 1930.
President Emeritus of ASTC for 12 years.
In 1915 Syracuse University awarded him an honorary doctorate. For 30 years he was a member of the Arizona State Board of Education, the Arizona State Teachers Association, the National Council of Education, and the Horace Mann League. He served as Treasurer of the National Education Association in 1918.
He owned 9 acres in section 16, in 1924.
Lived in the President's House owned by the college in 1921, '23. -'25, -'26., -'28, -'29., -'30., -'31 In 1932 at 820 College Ave.
