BiographyCame to Tempe in 1887.Came to the United States c1870; had become a naturalized citizen by 1910.
His family settled in Chicago. In May of 1883, he and three friends went to Phoenix, Arizona, where he lived for three years. In March of 1887, he opened the H. W. Ryder Hardware and Lumber Company at 6th Street and Mill Avenue, which he managed for almost fifty years, 1887-1937. Was a clerk at H W Ryder in 1921, mgr in 1922,'23, 1931. By the 1920s, this was the oldest business in Tempe that had been constructed and operated by one owner. Owned land near Tempe in 1900.
Lived at 611 S. Maple Avenuei n 1921, '23, -'25, -'26, '28, '29, '31, '32 and /104 E. 6th Street.
