DescriptionThe two front legs of this chair are cabriole and they have a leaf design at the top. Doweled joints attach the front legs to the seat. The right leg is unstable and is held by a screw. The chair has two vertical stiles from foot to crest, which are curved to form a balloon back. The seat is flared and consists of a wooden frame attached to the stiles with rabbeted joints. The seat is upholstered and is cream in color with a green, red and blue floral design over it. A gimp (ornamental braid covering an edge) goes around the bottom of the upholstery. The seat is padded and black fabric covers the underneath, which is attached by nails. The bottom rail is attached by mortise and tenon joints and it has a floral design on it with a large carved flower in the center. The top crest rail has been glued onto the stiles and it has a detailed scroll and scalloped carving on it with a center rose.
