Henry Hammer

BiographyMr. Hammer was one of the final two volunteer firefighters of the old Tempe Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Hammer was an over-30-year employee at Nevitt's Arco Service, 700 S. Mill Avenue. Among Mr. Hammer's accomplishments are the following:

President of Associated Firefighters of Arizona, 1976.

Active member of Associated Firefighters of Arizona.

Pension pay increases for retiring volunteer firemen.

Starter of new volunteer fire departments.

Trainer.

Chief of volunteers to new Tempe Fire Department.

Firefighter at fires at Old Payne Training School, ASU and old Tempe High School.

Firefighter at recent fires at old Tempe Hardware Store, Mill Avenue and Arizona Public Service, Mill Avenue.

Mr. Hammer's son, Ronnie and son-in-law Tommy Towe are Tempe Firefighters.
