BiographyAttorney and store owner.
She was raised in a poor family, and had to work her way through college to get a law degree. She was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1929. She came to Arizona in 1930 and was admitted to the Arizona
Bar in 1932, becaming one of the first female attorneys in the state.
With her husband, Charles Getz, operated the Boston store in downtown Tempe, 1940-1967.
Member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and advisor to the Rainbow Girls. She helped found the Business and Professional Women's Club of Tempe in 1947. She served as president, and in 1959, was named Tempe Woman of the Year by that organization. She helped organize the Tempe Family Service, the Mesa-Tempe Mental Health Center, and the Tempe Cancer Society. She was chairperson for fundraising drives for the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross, the City of Hope, the March of Dimes, Tempe Family Service, and Valley of the Sun School. She was a member of the Tempe Beautiful Committee in 1967. Recipient of 8th Annual Service to Mankind Award by Tempe Sertoma Club. Played an important role in starting the Tempe Historical Society.
In 1972, Getz School was named in honor of Charles and Edith Getz.
